For more than twenty-five years, patchwork quilting has been both my creative practice and my quiet sanctuary. What began as a simple curiosity has evolved into a deeply personal art form that continues to shape my life.

I work primarily with patchwork, drawn to the way small, disparate pieces of fabric can be carefully arranged into something cohesive and beautiful. The rhythmic process of cutting, piecing, pressing, and stitching has become a form of meditation for me; steady, grounding, and restorative.

Quilting is where my mind softens, my breathing slows, and time seems to expand. Over the years, I have created many quilts for family members, each one stitched with love and intended as a lasting embrace. I have completed commissioned pieces, sold quilts to friends, and had the privilege of exhibiting my work in Geelong. Every quilt carries a story, of the person it was made for, the fabrics chosen, and the season of life in which it was created.

During difficult phases of my life, turning to quilting and playing with textiles has eased pain and helped me move through those times with grace. The tactile comfort of fabric beneath my hands has been a quiet but powerful companion.

Textiles have long fascinated me, and quilting has kept my hands busy through twenty years of shift work and countless quiet evenings at home watching television. It is, without doubt, an addictive pleasure to collect fabric; especially pieces gathered from around the world. I love remembering where I purchased particular prints and recalling the travels, shops, or moments attached to them. Each fabric becomes more than material; it becomes memory.

What I cherish most is the creative journey itself. Every quilt teaches me something; a new technique, a design lesson, or a deeper understanding of myself. Not every piece is perfect, and I have learned to accept that. Sometimes completing a project, even knowing its imperfections, is an achievement in itself. Only I know where the mistakes are; my quiet “humility points” are reminders that growth lies in the making.

Now, in early retirement, I continue to practice and refine my craft, devoted to creating beautiful quilts that honour both the discipline of the process and the joy it brings me.
