A test rug woven in wool

I am a rug weaver with a love of bold colours and geometric shapes. I create my designs using software that was intended for creating cross-stitch patterns. I dye my own wool, using commercial dyes to get a consistent result across the several kilos of wool that’s required to produce each rug.

I use two looms (I’ve had 8 or 9 over the years) – the first one I ever bought which is very sturdy and I think hand made, and a Swedish Glimakra. I use shaft-switching devices on both looms because these allow you to do more intricate designs: the design I’m working on at the moment uses 101 levers to switch between colours.

I’ve borrowed two smaller looms and will be demonstrating my rug weaving at the Kyabram Town Hall, where I’ll also be showing some completed work.
